I don’t remember watching that much anime in 1993. Except maybe reruns of Voltes V, Daimos, and Astroboy.
As I got myself into anime more and more, I checked older animes like in the early ’90s.
Here now is my list of the best anime shows from 1993.
1. Aoki Densetsu Shoot!
Aoki Densetsu Shoot! is a football or soccer anime that originally aired from November 1993 to December 1994.
It has a total of 58 episodes.
It’s listed under the genre of sports anime.
The television series was produced by Shinji Shimizu and Yoshio Takami and was created in the Toei Animation studio.
The anime originated from the manga Shoot! Or Blue Legend Shoot! It had 33 volumes.
It was written by Tsukasa Ooshima and published by Kodansha.
I enjoyed the anime except for the “filler” parts that make the anime more of the “slice-of-life” genre.
In my opinion, for a soccer anime, it’s quite good although I still think Captain Tsubasa is better. Captain Tsubasa is another soccer anime.
There are a lot of cool soccer moves and plays which is really fun to watch.
I would recommend this anime if it’s going to be your first time watching it. As for rewatching value, I don’t think Aoki Densetsu Shoot will get a high score for it.
2. Kenyuu Densetsu Yaiba
Kenyuu Densetsu Yaiba is also called Legendary Brave Swordsman Yaiba.
Kenyuu Densetsu Yaiba is a 1993 anime that first aired from April 1993 to April 1994 for 52 episodes. It was on TV Tokyo.
The anime was produced by Mutsuo Shimizu, Noriko Kobayashi, Toshihiro Nakazawa, and Toshiaki Okuno. It was made from the studio of Pastel.
It’s listed under the genres of action, comedy, fantasy, martial arts, and samurai.
The anime was from the manga that was written by Gosho Aoyama and published by Shogakukan.
The manga ran from September 1988 to December 1993 for 24 volumes.
I enjoyed watching the anime.
I like the soundtrack and especially how Yaiba and Musashi laugh. It’s the laugh that when you hear it, you can’t stop but laughing the same way too.
The fight scenes are not bad and the system of changing the orbs which have different powers or effects is quite interesting for me.
I liked watching it when I was a kid and I still liked watching it as an adult. So I highly recommend watching Kenyuu Densetsu Yaiba.
Feel free to rewatch this anime too as it’s very enjoyable.
3. Slam Dunk
Slam Dunk is a basketball anime or sports anime that originally aired from October 1993 to March 1996 for 101 episodes.
This 1993 anime was directed by Nobutaka Nishizawa and Toei Animation was assigned as the studio to create the anime.
Slam Dunk is listed under the genres of comedy, school, and sports.
It started from the manga that was written by Takehiko Inoue and published by Shueisha.
The manga ran from October 1990 to June 1996 for 31 volumes.
Slam Dunk was a big hit amongst my friends since most of us all like playing basketball and watching anime.
It was even what students are talking about in school every week.
For its time, the basketball scenes were pretty good.
The main characters, as well as side-characters, are well-developed for me.
The songs used in this anime also sticks to my head up to this date.
One thing that’s a bit disappointing is that the anime didn’t extend to the inter-high games.
Slam Dunk is an anime worth watching and rewatching.
I highly recommend it!
These are just some of the best animes in 1993 that I highly recommend you to watch.
I enjoyed almost all the episodes of these anime shows and I hope you can also enjoy them.
I’ll add more to the list if I find something that’s interesting and worth watching.
